Oh my. A face full of fire is not good for Titanic or for those who will soon be craving steak.
In other news:
Sofawolf Press will be at the San Diego ComicCon! Their booth # is 1236. They will have Dungeons & Denizens volumes 1 and 2 and the first Carpe Diem trade paperback.
The convention starts Thursday July 22nd. If you’re going be sure to stop by and purchase a few copies of my books. If they sell well, you bet they’ll start carrying them to all the conventions they attend.
Now let us discuss. Has the Paladin just made it worse for his chances of surviving in a three dimensional form? Or might he actually wind up victorious?

This is reminding me of the novel “Villains by Necessity” (good luck finding it, it’s almost impossible to find). The heroes are jerks and assholes, while the villains? They end up being decent and are trying to save the world (by returning evil to it). Okay, they are evil, but still. ^^ Man, that paladin is a jerk… and the Kitten Collective /really/ wants to use him as a sharpening post. Tsk.
I don’t mean to take the side of the heroes, but only one of them is really a jerk. The others are just watching!
Which causes some doubts to rise as to their status as ‘heroes’.
Oh?
Well if you go that route, Rock, not everyone in the dungeon could be considered evil.
Besides, as for the others, I’m sure they realize that this is not a fight that they would want to step into the middle of. If I had that Paladin in my party I’d let him have at it too to his heart’s content. Clearly there’s no convincing him otherwise. (That, and with a Minotaur that large looming over me, I’d prefer to stay on his good side if at all possible.)
That and they just don’t like him.
Oh come on! He was being POLITE…he decided not to squish you after getting a Holy Smite in the face. Sheesh some Guests have no respect for manners anymore
You tell ‘im, Shads!
Discuss? What is there to discuss? The Paladin is being given EVERY opportunity to avoid his inevitable face-pounding while he’s being a jerk and a few words I won’t repeat in polite company. I’d say the face full of fire would hurt… but might be the last straw for Titanic leading up to the words ‘TITANIC SMASH!’… which by the way, I would love to see happen at this point.
Well, the angrier Titanic gets…no, I won’t go there!
Bad Breath, huh ?
Well, I guess that’s one way of annoying the Minotaur.
Too much habenero sauce, methinks.
I say he will survive, but be horrible maimed and bloody. Never breathe fire in a giant minotaurs face after he very politely asks you to stop trying to hurt him and offers NOT to squish you.
Wise words, yes!
Why thank you, I try to avoid situations in which my own arrogance gets me killed.
Death isn’t permanent here, though!
Rez or undeath, which will it be…?
Probably rez.
True. But didn’t Dragonborn lose all their Bahamut given powers if they died and were rez’d?
I follow the rules when I feel like using them. Otherwise I’ll make up my own. And I don’t recall ever reading that.
It may not be permanent, but generally it’s quite unpleasant and best avoided. Although if I came back as a ghost I could possess people n_n
Ooooh… That’s going to leave a mark. >_<
Or singe him at least.
Ahhhahahahaha! And the paladin still lives!
The minotaur said the light hurt his eyes. I wonder what he will say about the fire.
Noone ever told you not to look in the fire?
Well, i got another 20gp that the pally will still live at the end of the next page, but i’m starting to lose confidence…
Your gold will soon be mine.
Anyone else find it funny that he grabs the paladin’s “hammer” and the sound is “fwap”?
Those discounted sound effects were cheap, I tell you.
So the gods of minotaur Beefcake dont like titanic fapping?
Do YOU want to watch a giant minotaur fap?
Wait, don’t answer that question!
Those images that just appeared in your head? That’s called “one-man bukkake”. Look it up sometime. Or don’t.
You’d probably prefer “don’t”..
But I was drooling for steak earlier tonight . . .
No. Bad.
The alignment Lawful Stupid… only ever used by paladins of any sort (gigglesnort). My money is still on Titanic, even after the spicy meatball breath of fwoosh. Oh yes, I really must remember not to drink while reading funnies… I nearly spewed my tea after seeing the sound effect used for grabbing the paladin’s hammer (teehee)!
I love this comic
Spewing for the win!
OK this page brings into question who is the good guy and who is the bad guy.
Good guys don’t go looking for fights but fight when necessary. Titan was angry but he did not hit anyone but stopped someone from hitting him and asked the guy politely to stop. Going by current actions the paladin could be seen as the villain and Titan as the hero.
Here is a interesting predicament, a good hero type minotaur in a dungeon of evil monsters.
All will be revealed one day!
Everything will be unveiled given time but the time is not now.
Patience is not one of my strong suits.
Develop it, young grasshopper!
Yeah, I’m leaning towards Titanic being a Good-aligned monster. I mean, a blast of holy light only made his eyes hurt, rather than sear his tainted soul, right?
As for the paladin… Not so much Lawful Stupid as Lawful Dickwad, I’m thinking. From the sound of it, his player wasn’t paying attention when the description of the minotaur was being read, and just wanted an ecuse to bust heads.
So many alignments for the Paladin!
mmm, Beefcake extra crispy X3
Bad!
waah, sorry X3
Not as sorry as the Paladin’s gonna be!
hmmm.. pallys not using paladin powers anymore?
) that next page, he trys to use his powers, and cant coz his alignment changed
i wonder if hes lost them yet… :3
i’ll bet 10g of someone elses money (prob draco’s
wile im at it, i’ll bet 20g of someone elses money that hes not gonna be a fallen paladin before, or just after this fight ends :3
Oh, don’t you worry none. Paladin powers will be used soon.
I see wallets of lizard leather in the future… And we will totally understand if Big T stop being so polite in order to make then. After all, this paladin is being a jerk since the very begging.
Hmmm…I wonder how many people would buy paladin wallets.
I would! My money would have Protection from Evil on it! Take that, you sneaky Rogues!
*ponders*
. . . Ok, I’m totally using that idea for my Gnoll Fighter… Maybe Dragonborn Paladin Boots? Stylish!
Heh heh heh
I really loved how the hammer isn’t even in Titanic’s palm….he caught it with his finger tips! I’m not taking ANY odds on the Paladin. I’m thinking Smit, Smote, Smut!
There’s no way that sould only be a minor action.
I’m playing it fast and loose with the rules tonight, oh yeah!
OOOH! That’s some racial ability!
Autocast Fireblast whenever you shout the word “NEVER!” into someone’s face really loudly.
That’s a must-have for every self rightheus twat!
FIREY NEVER!
Well, Titanic tried. He even gave the paladin an extra chance he didn’t have to give him. NOW he can squash that arrogant lizard like the over-evolved bug he is with a clear conscience.
Let the crushing begin!
Whats left for the paladin to use?? Smite, hammer, breath… kitchen sink?
My bet is that the next strip will be the ….”OMG nothing worked and im going to get it”…
Leaving us with only a preview of whats coming to the im.
*innocent*
Why did you spell it “burt” instead of “burnt”?
The typo demons made me do it.
is the paladin lawful good or lawful stupid? i mean i’m just saying all of his evil smiting attacks are failing. his opponent is so strong he might as well be a child fighting and adult. on to of that his opponent gets bigger when angry. with all that and the fact that his opponent is giving him every opportunity to end the battle without further injury to either body or pride. just how stupid do you have to be not to order a fall back a regroup?
The Paladin may be planning. Or he’s just prideful.
There’s another answer. Titanic may be Neutral. Aren’t Paladin attacks mostly ineffective if your not evil?
True, and he’s only used one against him.
I think the paladin answered your question for you Greg “NEVER!”
Yes. yes he did.
>_< (The second question) Go Home Team Advantage
Yay home team!
I doubt the Minotaur will kill the paladin, but he, the paladin, is getting beat, hard.
That’s very likely.
dang it Greg, it’s 3:17 a.m. and now I’m hungry!
… mmm.. steak <3
Hrm… I think it’s high time that The Paladin learned what canned sardines feel like~
Get the can openers ready.
lol
Minotaur BBQ,
Ew!
Ow that’s going to leave a mark. Somehow I’m doubting that this is the finishing blow.
I think it’s time for Titanic to be a little less civilized and let his inner brute out to play. I think a nice charging headbutt is in order here. Maybe a goring as well.
Hard to charge when he’s right in front of you.
You’d be surprised at how much force can be applied in such a small distance with the right skill and motivation….
You’d be right!
Personally, I’m hoping that the paladin is knocked silly and wakes up in Seidistika’s tender care.
Heh heh heh…
Hmmm,dragon paste.
I hereby declare that fine dinning is served in this dungeon!
An addition:Wouldn’t that mean the gods aren’t very inclined in helping the paladin, sending him a hammer like that (making a fwap sound)?
I blame the artist for the sound F/X
Dragon paste. Minotaur steaks. Hm…
Paladin Smite + Non-evil target = fizzle….
I think I’ll be taking back what I said about the paladin not losing by a wide margin.
No takebacks!
I think Titan will eventually be offended, say something like “now you’ve gone too far” and flick the pally with his finger to send him bouncing off the walls. (or perhaps through some) When the pally tries to lay on hands to heal his shattered bones the spell will fizzle, because he did indeed go too far. B-)
Keep on reading.
Somehow I get the feeling that this whole ‘set a minotaur on fire’ stint is running towards a Salisbury Steak joke.. I think Kei would be proud to have her joke reused. :3
Kei’s going to be disappointed if she’s keeping track. No Salisbury steak jokes here!
Hmmmm…. I see great financial opportunity for the smart investor here!
*Goes off to buy stock in all nearby vendors of extra large sun glasses, bulk orders of burn cream, adamantium spatulas and industrial grade can openers.*
I shall be rich!
Dungeons & Denizens: Making other people rich (or making them think they’re rich) since 2006!
Someone’s bucking for Foglio level plotlines! Love it, and I’m betting on Titanic to sink that Paladin… soon to be Ex Paladin, perhaps soon to be ex-alive, unless Titanic is feeling extra generous. Hell, Titanic is a great example of the way a Paladin SHOULD be played. Bahamut is obviously testing his young padawan, and the padawan is being found… lacking.
High praise indeed.
Yet its worth that praise. Been enjoying this subthread in particular (enough to post for the first time). My 20gp is on the Paladin getting a severe Atomic Wedgie from Titanic…which is just kind of “ahem!” when you remember that his underwear is platemail
Ow!
I think chainmail might be worse… All those little rings.
This is true!
Well at this point I think my “Let’s call it a draw!” is about right….. with the Paladin in the condition of the Black Knight except limbs removed via minotaur rather than sword!
Score soon to be Paladin Pride 1 Paladin Health 0
Paladin Dude, STOP NOW! You are giving Righteous Smiting and Indignation a bad rep!
Isn’t that a Bon Jovi song?
Now really you give a guy a break, try to do the nice thing, and he spits fire in your face. This is why I’m a ranger so if the first shot doesn’t kill hem I have some running room. I see some Mario bros action here, sorry pally titan is not a plumber. But your day is about to go down the crapper. If i was titan I’d use the pally’s hammer in new and interesting ways.
Titanic doesn’t need a hammer!
true but he would not want to get his hand all stinky..8-)
I mean if he uses the hammer Jeff Dunham could get a new puppet. Pally on a sticccck.
>.>
I was thinking of Titanic bending the Paladin in new and creative ways.
You know, if I had a hammer…oh, never mind.
You better hope you’re tall enough to avoid a boot to the head!
…and one for Jenny and the wimp?
Now you’ve done gone and lost me!
By the way, something is wrong here. The minotaur got a smite in the face, his eyes turned red (my guess: very angry) and yet he calmed during the few seconds the palading charged at him with his hammer. How so?
Titanic has his moments of calm. It doesn’t mean he’s any less formidable, though!
The size of his lungs probably mean he is constantly going through deep breathing exersices.
Probably!
Ok, the pally has moved from prideful to just plain rude. I think titanic has every right to fold, spindle, and mutilate the obnoxious S.O.B. Though it might be even better if the paladins God actually got involved in setting him strait. Preferably with a smite upside his own head. But then again, his God might be just as prideful and arrogant as he is so he might still be in favor. I really hope that some one pounds the jerk into lizard pate.
Indeed.
Last I checked, Bahamut wasn’t that spiteful and arrogant, but then that’s always left up to the DM as to how to play major/minor gods in any given setting. I’d say this “paladin” is following in the footsteps of other great “Paladins” before him, all of which got squished, splattered, or otherwise met sticky ends while their gods sat back and watched the show, with popcorn. Minds me of the tale of a certain Wolfen Paladin of Bahamut who happened to travel with a 1st level Monk (9th level Assassin) and a group of warriors who where being led by a Paladin who tried to boss his own GOD around. Good times~
Hmmmm…I think this Paladin would be arrogant enough to boss his own god around if he felt he was doing the right thing, and his god wasn’t.
He may be arrogant enough to try and boss his own god around, but I doubt he has the power to back it up with.
Also .. *pickpockets Greg* .. Kitchensink !!
*flee*
Want me to snipe hem for you Greg?
Nah, I done pummeled the thief!
Good thing I keep my wallet on a chain. *pummels the thief*
Oh, it gets better. That “Paladin” bossed his own god around on countless occasions because he thought that’s how it was DONE. He also told the 1st Level Monk that his duties included: Setting up camp, tearing down camp, keeping watch alone all night, cooking meals, and gathering provisions while keeping up with the warriors who where on horseback while he was on foot. The Paladin was a great example of Chaotic Evil, or maybe even Lawful Evil. Little did he know that the 1st level Monk was also a 9th Level Assassin, trained by “Grandfather Flowers” who is a world renowned master assassin. Before they got to their destination, a thieves fortress, he poisoned their meals. The poison took on the Paladin and he didn’t even know it. The Monk “volunteered” to “scout the fortress” so that the Paladin and his cohorts wouldn’t “get unnessiscarily dirty” in the scuffle ahead. He then proceeded to tell the thief boss where to place everyone for a perfect ambush and slipped back out. After the Paladin and his party, minus the monk and Wolven Paladin went into the ambush, the Monk took the horses and started off with his friend the Wolven Paladin. The “Paladin” demanded his god intervene for him, and his god told him to shove off. It was a right beautiful setup and literal execution of a very un-lawful good Paladin and his cohorts.
Hmmm, even a fellow Paladin abandoned the bossy guy?
Woah,I guess even Neutral Ubergood would see the need of getting rid of bossy Paladins.
Well, here’s the answer to that question.. “What is the sound of one hammer fwapping?”
I really like the third panel, the way Titanic just towers over our scaly friend.
Titanic is taller than everyone there. He’s a big mino.
hell the only thing bigger in that dungeon than titanic is the dragon min saw way earlier in the comic
That would be Suzukarnage!
Lets see, paople that are bigger than Titanic ?
Well, there’s that tech support guy, Leviathan – He made a real nice Demon Overloard impression.
And then there was that monster with the teeth and fangs on level 1, that gave Min directions on his first day, and Gazdar says don’t exist.
OH – And then there’s Min himself when he had that growth potion as well.
He had a nice and savage visage too.
I’m sure there’s more, but it’s not important.
Titanic *is* big, and that’s really all there is to it.
Even if there’s bigger ones around.
Leviathan isn’t a tech support. That’s Min. Levi’s the owner!
I still would like to see the Paladin pull off the upset. I am a sucker for underdogs and it is clear who the underdog is by all of the, “Titanic is going to kill/maim/hurt/wound/slaughter/other unpleasant ill-doings the paladin!” remarks.
Time will tell!
You wrote “BURT” – I think you meant “BURNT”
I dunno why you’re trying to correct something that already got corrected.
if i had a hammer…i’d hammer in the ..er never mind. lol
gent garrard.
No singing!
ok well there goes the holy relic…….when in doubt,,,, USE A FLAMETHROWER. or fire breath in this case
Gotta love it!
Hello Greg,
I’m short of money again, so I send you the gags for next week in advance. I hope you will appreciate it and pay me in advance, too.
Here they are:
Titanic (knocking the paladin in the ground): “Look! I’m making a pally sad! (a palisade) Hohoho.
Tiger (looking at the droven in pally): “Now he is knee-deep in trouble.”
Ranger (after the gorgon has interacted): “Yeah, but still standing as firm as rock.”
Zerelda: “So what? I am a gorgon. I can make every man as hard as a rock.”
I know the last one is a bit daring, but the kids wont get it anyway, so don’t worry. Send the money please to my suisse account, as usual.
regardful,
Your ghostwriter.
I don’t pay for bad puns!
If that Paladin is high level, this could actually get quite ugly for Titanic, even if lizardlips winning personality makes me wonder why his companions haven’t shoved his head up his scabbard yet.
But given by the fact Guvnor (that’s I think what Stripes calls him.) Doesn’t seem to be doing especially well. (Although then again, being thrown into the wall mostly seems to have annoyed Guv rather then hurt him.) he might not necessarily be able to take this one either. And he does certainly seem dumb enough to take on something that can kick his ass.
Still…. it might not be Titanic who kicks his ass… I could see him starting to pummel Titanic into submission actually, only for someone more powerful to then promptly finish him off (or knock him out.) before he can kill Titanic.
Gunvor’s the Barbarian.
