For those of you who get the joke, you rock. If you do not get the joke, shame on you.
Discussion time! Does the Paladin really stand a chance against several tons of minotaur, or is he cruising for a bruising down the road of broken dreams and bones? Leave your thoughts and comments down below!

I GET IT! lol
We’ll see what a holy relic does against someone who has a good heart.. STAY TUNED!
Indeed!
I hope the paladin gets “smited ” in return, just for the sin of pride and arragence. I do find his holy symbol interesting. It is the same as the navigation icon on this site for random jump. I would have interpeted it as meaning “true nutral” but then I haven’t played D and D in some 25 or 30 years
Coincidence, but a great one.
Funny. I thought the symbol was a reference to console gaming d-pads
Nope, sorry!
I think the paladin’s deity likes beefcake, and thus some chastisement is in order
We’ll see if you’re right!
I gotta say… I loved this one. And I REALLY, REALLY hope the Paladin gets what’s coming to him. There is Religious Fervor… And then there is just down right sinful arrogance and idiocy… Guess which one the Paladin is in
In any case! I got the joke and love the comic
Definitely the latter, but it does seem like he has the power to back it up.
Pride cometh before a fall. If I was his deity that would be a nerf hammer
Heh heh heh
Next scene, the minotaur grows 20 feet tall, and stomps about while singing about revenge, as little bits fall off the cave and/or nearby buildings…
Lemme think about that no.
I’m assuming the hammer is meant to be the Paladin’s “compensation for something”?
If it’s a movie, comic or other reference, then alas, I didn’t get it. ^^
As for who’s likely to win… I’d say Titanic. Not just because he has the power of an out of control steam diesel locomotive and a good heart, but also because he has lots of backup if it should become necessary — and I don’t think ANYONE is going to help the Paladin if he winds up getting creamed.
The Paladin has not won any favors with his teammates, but there may be a reason for them to help out that has not been revealed!
How about the desire to be paid? Might that be it?
You might just have hit it on the head.
Ohhhh, wait. Yeah, now I got it! “Captain Hammer”, yes?
You’re definitely not too Horrible with your guessing.
Bah-dum-dum-psh!
Thanks folks! I’ll be here all week. Try the manticore!
No, thanks. It already bit me on the way in.
Hahaha, i knew the paladin would live!
Another 20gp says he’ll live through the next page as well.
Just waiting for the hammer to fall… another one bites the dust…
Or should i say: We will, we will smite you?
It’s missing from my last comment, but i’m humming Queen songs of course
Spare him his life from this monstrosity.
Not gonna happen!
Silly boy!
Please don’t remind me of the Faerie OddParents… o_o
Okay!
Can I remind you instead?
NO.
My crystal ball thingy is showing me….uh….something. I think.
Paladin rolls a perfect hit against the Minotaur. Unfortunately, the Paladin’s hammer comes to a dead stop on the Minotaur’s head, who then takes the initiative from the Paladin’s stalled attack and rolls not one, not two, but THREE perfect 20s, and plasters the Pally against the wall……or ceiling……or the ground……or through something.
Alternative punishment is that the Paladin gets his hammer deposited in a well-known location to us where the sun just doesn’t want to shine. (And no, I’m not referring to some deep dark corner of the dungeon.)
Maybe! Or maybe not.
The GODs of Minotaur Beefcake will save their Eye Candy
They may also allow the Paladin some leeway, since he brought a third minotaur into the Dungeon.
Darn! I thought he would at least have a battle cry of “IT’S HAMMER TIME!”
No. Gawd, no!
And now “Brand New Day” is stuck in my head… but that’s ok, I like the song.
And Penny will see the evil me…
Know magically enhanced items for paladins it could either pass through the minotaur, glow a certain color showing what alignment the minotaur is, Weaken the paladin so he can’t fight, or rebound off a good character and smack the paladin in the head knocking him out. As for the hammer the head is to big for the shaft. He really can’t get the leverage he needs to get the job done. This time size really does count. Also would like to see the paladin suffer a bit by figuring out that the minotaur is good. Then lose his mind for a bit trying to figure out why a good minotaur works in an evil dungeon. Could make quite a funny short story arc out of it. Especially if some of the monsters in the Dungeon explain(though fasely) they are good to. Really screwing with his head.
That’s generally the idea.
Given the size difference…I’m imagining a variation on the classic ‘hand on attacker’s head while attacker swings wildly and futilely’ gag in the near future. BTW, what’s with the switch away from using LJ for comments? Or were people not on LJ complaining?
I think LJ is on its way out. You have to admit we’ve gotten more replies this week on these two pages than a month’s worth of regular updates on LJ.
Give him a pair of genie pants and… 0/~ It’s HAMMER TIME! 0/~ (MC Hammer)
Sorry, had to.
For all of the paladin’s bluster and arrogance, I don’t think he would have lived long with that attitude without having SOME skill to back it up. Ergo.. if the paladin doesn’t win, it won’t be by a wide margin.
The way that hammer is coming down? Minotaur’s gonna have a
headachemigraine… if not worse. He did take care of Ravin rather quickly.
Oh my.. look at his “hammer!”
Think this battle won’t have a winner.
Although the paladin will be the winner on a technicality in the end.
Go Pally Go!
Oh no. The Paladin has a fangirl!
KILL IT WITH FIRE!
Evil spirit of Richard, leaves Marrock’s body now.
Who?
why am I not surprised to find a “Looking for Group” reference here?
Because we do love our webcomics, yes.
I will not be happy if that paladin gets outta this unharmed. he’s been asking for a good bloodying since panel 1 >_<
Well, he did get to meet the cavern wall with his face…
Yes, but he has through his actions shown that he needs more of that type of love.
Perhaps!
“Come here and let me love you with my fists… and this club… and some rocks… and this catapult I just happen to have here… and, oh look, fire… fire is good for showing love.”
*This quote taken from a gaming session back in my old AD&D 2nd Edition days.*
I think they’re both gonna knock each other senseless.
Wait and see, I suppose!
Short trip for the pally.
Ayup!
Oh god, that joke was HORRIBLE!!! Well done
*bows*
Whatever the results, it. Will. Rock.
I agree!
So what is the Paly’s alignment? Prideful Stupid?
Prideful Ego!
… yeah, money’s on Titanic.
It’s a good bet!
After an epic battle -
“All right, let’s call it a draw, eh?” (Okay, bad M.P. scene I know and I’ll stop now…)
Money on Titanic but also not keen to see our source of endless righteous indignation come to an end either.
Even if somehow the Paladin expires, it’s a magical world. He’ll be back.
All Paladins are Lawful Anal!
Hmm..should I vote for the Paly or Minotaur.
..Screw it, I vote for the Gnoll! The Rakhasha is too goofy looking.
The Rakshasa will be hurt you said that. Or just ignore you. Dunno!
Dude, agreement here, the Gnoll is the best of the “Other Six”. Reckon he’s almost worthy of an ongoing gig!
That Ranger is definitely fun.
It’s like that old saying… “pride goeth before a fall”… let’s just hope that it is the paladin that does the falling, not the minataur
Yeah, if the minotaur falls, he might cause a cave in.
Since I play D&D a lot, I know that even if the pally knows the person is evil, If it is unarmed or surrenders he cant kill it, that said the pally will lose the fight mainly because 1 Titanic is good but stupid, 2 the laws of the dungeon are still set for 3rd,and 3 the gods of beefcake.
The only way i see Titanic lose is if he lives up to his name.
yes I got the joke pmprofl..8-)
The Paladin’s not going to give up easily. It’ll take a lot of hard blows on his skull to convince him!
You know what would really hurt the Paladin’s ego, if Titanic got elevated to paladin status in the middle of the fight.
I don’t think Titanic can pass the Paladin’s Exam.
Well, how about Min?
<__>
It isn’t THAT far fetched! He’s a Jobber, so he’s got Law covered. He hasn’t been shown to do more to Adventurers than just knocking them down to a stable 0 ~ -9, so the job itself isn’t a facter. Take into account his actions in the dungeon outside of his duties… Lets say that if nothing else, there are at least TWO minotaurs who this Pally can’t Smite.
Question: What happens to a 4e Paladin who suffers an Alignment Shift? Granted, being in a 3e area will meen he will be powerless THERE, but will the issue be more wide spread? I only ask becouse I heard once that the Evil Aligned gods have Pallys of their own now, so I can’t even hazard a guess anymore.
Ack! My eye shifties got mooshed together! -_-¡
That’s the price you pay for theorizing!
Don’t think too much into this. It’s fighting time, not theorizing time!
Paladins don’t need to be Lawful Good in 4E – they merely need to match the alignment of their god (and so can happily be Unaligned or even Chaotic Evil). A paladin’s powers are also “for life” – they don’t automatically lose them if they cease to serve their god, though “for life” may be short if they leave an angry church or god behind them.
Hmm… that’d be a good story for an Avenger, actually. They’re a 4E class that basically amount to holy assassins, and hunting down a fallen paladin would be entirely in keeping with their theme…
Maybe so, but for now we’ll see how long he’s going to have those powers, because his life might just end soon!
foosh.. more Min!
You got it!
The paladin is doomed. DOOMED I SAY!
Yup!
yep, the gods do indeed feel that monster isnt worth their time.. so, titanic to the rescue!
pallys goin down
Yeah!
Oh, THAT hammer.
Could also that the paladin is too legit to quit.
(No Stanley, its not that time!)
Hammer, don’t hurt them!
GG, way back up on the 16, grimlock made this comment:

Evil spirit of Richard, leaves Marrock’s body now.
I’m pretty sure that’s a reference to the comic “looking for group”
as for the bets on who’ll win… i think it’ll go for a few rounds back and forth, then get interrupted by a third party as yet not on panel and called as a draw… i’m thinking either Donna/Diana, or Litchvell
Litchvell isn’t there. Can Donna & Diana save the day?
hmm is it just me or why is the paladin alternating between digitigrade and plantigrade legs?
Could just be you.
GraveyardGreg – Great new site! I just noticed it this post!
And thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for finally fixing the RSS feed. I can finally stop wearing out the F5 key on my keyboard! XD
You are very welcome!
That pally be damned! He needs to shown the error of arrogance and over zealous pride!!! From the first he’s been an obnoxious snot and now I think it’s high time for his comeuppance!
Go Titanic go!!! Show that arrogant S.O.B. what for!
There’s gonna be a lot of pain, yup.
I like the new site! It wouldn’t load for a few days because my user agent is
“googlebot/2.1″ changed it to “unknown” and the site loads ok. It took some
time to figure that out.
Also, the handsome raeptile must win… or at least not lose. A draw would
be nice.
Maybe in a heroic webcomic the Paladin will win.
This is not a heroic webcomic, though…
I know how the battle will play out, the paladin does a song and dance while putting on a good show then Titan replies with a single uppercut, the impact then knocks the paladin through the ceiling of the dungeon.
Yanno, your epic in the making battle ending in a curb stomp.
It’s never that easy.
Ya know I actually want the paladin to win just for the OH [EXPLETIVE] factor, but I am fairly certain that Titanic is going to lay the hurt down on the poor paladin for a couple of strips if not just one strip.
I would have thought him taking out Ravin would be enough!
Lots of pain, yup yup!
Let’s refrain from using characters from the comic as your username, okay?
Ok, first off OBVIOUSLY Titanic will win. His Plot Armor is too good. and yes, the paladin depicted here is being an arrogant dweeb.
That being said…..I find it more than a little frustrating that in virtually every case, webcomics pretty much ALEWAYS mock the Paladin. The paladin lives by a moral code to protect Law and Good, but most otherscouldn’t handle that sort of thing on thier best day, so it’s SO much easier to demean the archtype and make him into an overly-self-rightous, deluded jackass who couldn’t make a perception roll if his alignment depended on it. Then, when some contraved situation pops up..(usually involving the dolt being manipulated) *poof* he becomes a FALLEN paladin, and even more pathetic. “ohohoho…look at that idiot..who would EVER want to play a paladin?”
Now if you wanna see what a REAL (well, as far as a fictional occupation for fictional characters go) paladin, go read the DResden Files books with Michael Carpenter in them. THAT’s a paladin.
Well, I promise you this guy is not going to be a fallen paladin.
I’m gonna guess that in the end, Ang— er, Titantic, is gonna come out on top, for a few interconnected reasons. First, in other continuities, we’ve seen that he’s no slouch when he’s genuinely focused on kicking someone’s ass, and he looks pretty pissed here. Secondly, he’s a little bit of a Mary Sue, especially given how often he seems to accidentally “stumble” into GG’s other comics. Thirdly, I don’t think it’s in GG’s heart to actually harm the poor soul beyond the demands of the story… given that he’s appearing in this comic despite a filler/explanation comic from early in this comic’s history *clearly stating that he would never appear* (The comic which also told us that while we’d never have to witness minotaur bits, to the relief of some and the anguished outcry of many.)
The filler comic was Carpe Diem, and he hasn’t shown up there. And besides, this is the only other comic he’s fallen into. Guardians doesn’t count.
Why do I think that the Gods he serves created that hammer by chopping off his other hammer? It would explain why he’s perpetually pissed but still…
Nope. He’s still got his bits.
I thought the hammer would be bigger…….
This one looks like a hammer for some heavily-robed STR 10 wizard xD
It ain’t the size, it’s how you use it!
I, envy you. Your blog is much better under the maintenance and design than mine. Who to you the design did?
Someone who’s worth every single cent.
Well, Captain…for the reference alone I believe you’ve just become my hero.
If a law were passed giving six months to every writer of a first book, only the good ones would do it.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity and I’m not sure about the universe.
Dr. Horrible reference!! If it was possible for this comic’s “win” factor to go up any more for me, it would now.
Yay, someone else got it!
YES!!!
